In two games, Desjardins collected three goals and four assists while maintaining a +2 (plus/minus) differential. In the opening game of the season versus the Shawinigan Cataractes, the feisty forward collected two points along with a shootout goal in a 5-4 win. On Sunday, Desjardins scored twice and added three assists to lead his team to a 6-0 victory over the Quebec Remparts. He was named the game’s first star. Of note, the Huskies’ forward bested his previous career-high of four points, which he had accomplished versus the Mooseheads on October 28, 2006.
Christopher DiDomenico (3-2-5) of Saint John, Stefano Giliati (3-2-5) of Lewiston and Dany Massé (1-4-5) of Acadie-Bathurst were also considered.
The defensive player of the week award goes to Baie-Comeau backstop Marco Cousineau. In two games, he registered one win while maintaining an exceptional 0.48 goals-against-average and .979 save percentage. In his first start, he made 22 saves to shutout the Saguenéens at home to earn first-star honours. The following night in Chicoutimi, Cousineau blocked 25 shots in a 2-1 shootout loss. He was named the game’s second star.
Goaltenders Bobby Nadeau (1-1; 124 MIN; 0.96 GAA; .967 SAV%) of Chicoutimi and Guillaume Blouin (2-0; 1 SO; 125 MIN; 1.92 GAA; .937 SAV%) of Rouyn-Noranda as well as defenseman Jason Legault (1-3-4; +3) of Val-d’Or were also considered.
