Morrison and Desfossés win TELUS player of the week awards

BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, September 24, 2007 – PEI Rocket forward Brett Morrison and Quebec Remparts goaltender Kevin Desfossés today were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from September 17 to 23.

In three games, Morrison registered five goals and two assists while maintaining a +5 (plus/minus) differential. Moreover, the four-year veteran had a hand in 10 of the team’s 18 goals. He enjoyed his best game against the Fog Devils in St. John’s on Friday as he collected two goals and one assist in a 6-1 win. Morrison was named the game’s third star. He currently sits atop the QMJHL scoring standings with 10 points.

Martin Latal (4-2-6) of PEI, Alexandre Monahan (4-1-5) of Victoriaville and Félix Petit (3-3-6) of Quebec were also considered.

The defensive player of the week award goes to Quebec Remparts backstop Kevin Desfossés. In two games, he registered two shutout wins, thus maintaining a remarkable 0.00 goals-against-average and 1.000 save percentage. In his first start on Friday, he made 30 saves in front of 11,887 fans assembled at Colisée Pepsi to blank the Foreurs 2-0. The following night, he blocked 21 shots to keep the Drakkar scoreless while extending his shutout streak to 125 minutes and 11 seconds. Desfossés leads all League goaltenders with a 1.92 goals-against-average.

Defensemen Jason Demers (1-4-5;+2) of Victoriavlle and Nicolas Sigouin (1-3-4;+1) of Acadie-Bathurst as well as goaltender Maxim Gougeon (1-1; 1 SO; 125 MIN; 1.44 GAA; .954 SAV%) of Drummondville were also considered.
