Tavares named OHL Player of the Week

Toronto – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Oshawa Generals forward John Tavares is the Boston Pizza OHL Player of the Week for the week ending September 23, 2007. Tavares recorded three goals and five assists for eight points in two games. On Friday, September 21st, Tavares scored one goal and three assists for four points as he led the Generals to a 7-3 season opening victory over the Sudbury Wolves at the Oshawa Sports and Entertainment Facility. Tavares was named first star of the game for his efforts. The following night, Tavares recorded two goals and two assists for four points in a 5-3 victory over the Belleville Bulls. Tavares was named the game’s first star. Tavares finished second overall in league scoring last season with 72 goals and 62 assists for 134 points in 67 games. Tavares was named the OHL and CHL Player of the Year last season.
