Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Niagara IceDogs defenceman Alex Pietrangelo is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending September 30, 2007. Pietrangelo recorded three goals and four assists for seven points in two games.
On Friday, September 28th, Pietrangelo registered three assists and scored the lone goal during the shootout for a 5-4 victory over the Ottawa 67’s. Two days later, Pietrangelo scored three goals for his first career OHL hat trick and added an assist, en route to a 7-4 victory over the visiting Sudbury Wolves. Pietrangelo set an IceDogs record for the fastest opening goal in franchise history after scoring 13 seconds into the opening frame. Pietrangelo’s four point performance wasn’t overlooked as he was named the games first star.
Pietrangelo, a 17 year-old native of King City, Ontario, is currently tied for fourth in OHL scoring with three goals and seven assists for 10 points.
Pietrangelo was drafted by the IceDogs in the 1st round, 3rd overall, in the 2006 OHL Priority Selection and is eligible for the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
Mitch Fadden of the Lethbridge Hurricanes was the Western Hockey League nominee after recording four goals and three assists for seven points in three games. Claude Giroux of the Gatineau Olympiques was the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League nominee after scoring two goals and five assists for seven points in three games.
