BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, October 8, 2007 – Chicoutimi Saguenéens forward Francis Paré and Cape Breton Screaming Eagles goaltender Olivier Bellavance-Roy today were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from October 1 to 7.
In three games, the Saguenéens forward registered three goals and four assists while maintaining a very impressive +6 (plus/minus) differential. He enjoyed his best game of the week against the Drummondville Voltigeurs on Friday, scoring a hat-trick and adding an assist in a 5-3 win. After winning their last four contests, Chicoutimi has taken over fourth place in the TELUS division standings.
Jakub Voracek (1-6-7) of Halifax, Dean Ouellet (3-4-7) of Cape Breton and Brett Morrison (2-4-6) of PEI were also considered.
The defensive player of the week award goes to Cape Breton Screaming Eagles backstop Olivier Bellavance-Roy. In three games, he posted three wins, including two shutouts, while maintaining a 1.00 goals-against-average and .958 save percentage. He blanked the Wildcats and the red-hot Titan offence in back-to-back games to extend his shutout streak to 167 minutes and 51 seconds, the fourth longest in League history. The Screaming Eagles sit comfortably in first place with sixteen points in the Eastern division standings.
Defensemen Mathieu Bolduc (1-4-5;+4) and Christopher Guay (1-0-1;+6) of Chicoutimi as well as goaltender Peter Delmas (2-0-0; 120 MIN; 2.00 GAA; .918 SAV%) of Lewiston were also considered.
