BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, October 29, 2007 – Rimouski Océanic forward Michael Frolik and St. John’s Fog Devils goaltender Timo Pielmeier today were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from October 22 to 28.
In three games, Frolik scored six goals, including a game-winner, and added one assist while maintaining a +4 rating. He enjoyed his best outing of the week on Tuesday as he registered a hat-trick in a 7-2 win over the Chicoutimi Saguenéens in front of 3,544 fans assembled at the Colisée in Rimouski. He was also named the game’s first star. Frolik has played in only six contests so far this season due to an injury he sustained at the beginning of the regular season.
François Bouchard (3-3-6) of Baie-Comeau, Matthew Pistilli (4-1-5) of Gatineau and Alexandre Beaton (3-2-5) of Lewiston were also considered.
The defensive player of the week award goes to St. John’s Fog Devils goaltender Timo Pielmeier. In two road games, Pielmeier registered two wins, including one by shutout, while maintaining a 1.00 goals-against-average and .975 save percentage. In the first of his two starts on Thursday, he made 37 saves in a 3-2 win over the Moncton Wildcats. The following evening in Charlottetown, he turned away 42 shots in a 3-0 victory to earn his first career shutout. He was also named the game’s first star. Of note, the Fog Devils earned five out of a possible six points in the standings this week.
Defensemen Jean-Philippe Paquet (0-5-5; +5) of Baie-Comeau and T.J. Brennan (0-3-3; +6) of St. John’s, as well as goaltender Kevin Desfossés (2-0-0; 120 MIN; 1.00 GAA; .963 SAV %) of Quebec were also considered.
