Hot play has Storm’s Fabbri climbing the 2014 draft ranks

For players entering their draft year, one of the keys is to ensure that you are able to showcase your talent as often — and in as many situations — as possible as an audition for potential future employers. So, while a 10-game suspension for a hit to the head meant that Guelph Storm forward Robby Fabbri missed some marquee showtime, his experience backstage may serve to help his future performance.

ISS Draft Rankings: Reinhart holding steady as top prospect in December rankings

No news is good news if you're Kootenay Ice center Sam Reinhart, at least when it comes to the ISS Hockey December rankings for the 2014 NHL Draft. Reinhart is holding steady as the top-ranked prospect for the coming year's draft, a position he has held in these rankings for the four releases that ISS Hockey has produced in the 2013 portion of this season.

Kase hoping to display skills at U20 World Juniors

It looks like it could be a solid draft year for the Czech Republic in 2014 with David Pastrňák and Jakub Vrána, two upper round candidates based in Sweden, and many more potential later round prospects playing either in Sweden, Canada or in their homeland. Thanks to a new rule implemented by the Czech Ice Hockey Association, prospects are also getting much more ice-time in the Extraliga than in recent years.

Russia features some good, second-tier talent for 2014 draft

After having eight players selected during the 2013 NHL Draft, a decrease from 11 during the 2012 selections (three of them in the first round: Nail Yakupov, Mikhail Grigorenko, and Andrei Vasilevsky), Russia might see a rebound in the number of recruited players as the class of ’95- and ’96-born players is very solid and most likely better than the ’94 group.

After a sterling rookie regular season last year, you could forgive Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds forward Jared McCann for expecting more of the same as the playoffs began. But his very first playoff contest came to an abrupt end, knocked out of the playoffs due to a concussion suffered as a result of an open-ice hit by Owen Sound’s Cameron Brace.
