The silver medalist USA squad competing at the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament included a few bigger, more physical players than the American squad normally carries into the international tournaments. One of the grittier players from the American forward ranks competing at this tournament was center Keegan Iverson.

Although the team made a good run through the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament, Team USA was not able to break Canada's dominant hold on gold at this tournament as they fell to the Canadians, 4-0, in the gold medal game.

Russia made a run to the semi-finals at the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament, but their bid for gold fell short as they were defeated by Canada, 3-1, in a game played earlier today.

One of the host countries for the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament, Slovakia, has had a difficult time at this year's tourney. The team failed to win any of their four games, with the most recent loss being an 11-0 drubbing at the hands of Sweden in the seventh place match.

The last time a Czech prospect was selected among the top 10 at an NHL Draft was in 2006 when the Columbus Blue Jackets drafted Jakub Voráček sixth overall. Since then, the only bigger success for a Czech draft class was a year ago, in 2012, when two forwards, Radek Faksa and Tomáš Hertl, were selected by Dallas and San Jose respectively in the top 20. And, while the 2013 NHL Draft was a huge disappointment for the Czech Republic, this traditional stronghold of hockey is expected to come back.
