After watching Finland forward Eeli Tolvanen (Sioux City – USHL) notch a hat trick in the first quarterfinal game of the 2016 IIHF U18 World Championship played at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, Team Canada forward Tyson Jost (Penticton – BCHL) decided to get in on the action with a hat trick of his own in a 9-1 win over Switzerland. The 2016 IIHF U18 World Championship came to an end in the quarterfinals for Team Switzerland after they dropped a 9-1 decision to Canada. While the quarterfinal outcome wasn’t pretty, the Swiss live to fight another day at the top level of the U18 tournament as they maintain class for next year’s event that will take place in Magnitogorsk, Russia. A game that was fairly close after one period of play turned into an eight-goal margin of victory for Team Canada as they downed Switzerland by a 9-1 score in the quaterfinals of the 2016 IIHF U18 World Championship in Grand Forks, ND. Read more »

Team Finland has scored 17 goals so far at the 2016 IIHF U18 World Championship. Forward Eeli Tolvanen (Sioux City – USHL) has netted six of those goals, with three of those goals coming in his country’s 4-3 quaterfinal win over Russia. Read more »

In what ended up being the closest of the four quarterfinal matches at the 2016 IIHF U18 World Championship, Team Finland defeated Russia by a 4-3 score.

A goal by by Russian forward Yaroslav Alexeyev (MVD Balashikha – RUS) drew his team within one of Finland with 7:29 remaining in the third period, but Russia could not produce the equalizer in the remaining time. Read more »
