2009-10: Split time between the Brynas J20 and Elitserian clubs.  In 19 games at the J20 level, Jarnkrok scored 11 goals and added 20 assists for 31 points.  He picked up 1 more assist in 2 playoff games for this squad.  At the Elitserian level, Jarnkrok scored 4 goals and added 6 assists for 10 points in 33 games.  In 5 playoff games, Jarnkrok picked up 1 goal and 1 assist for 2 points.

2010-11: Jarnkrok spent the entire season on Elitserien’s Brynas team, posting 11 goals and 16 assists for 27 points in 49 games. He also went on to score 3 goals in 3 post-season games before going down with a shoulder injury. Had an impressive campaign for Sweden at the WJC, where he posted 2 goals and 3 assists for 5 points over 6 games.

2011-12: Jarnkrok was the second-leading scorer for Brynas in Sweden's Elitserien as a 20-year-old and was played for Sweden in the 2012 IIHF World Championship. He scored 16 goals with 23 assists and was minus-three with 22 penalty minutes in 51 games; averaging almost 16 minutes of ice time per game. Brynas, after finishing fourth in the regular season, captured the Elitserien playoff championship.  Jarnkrok scored 4 goals with 12 assists and was plus-12 with 12 penalty minutes in 16 playoff games. In eight games at the World Championships he had 1 assist and was an even plus/minus as Sweden finish sixth.

Talent Analysis

Jarnkrok’s most obvious positive is his very good puck control, as he shows an ability to hang on for extended periods of time. He projects as a playmaker, as he is more apt to setting up plays than finishing them. Jarnkrok also boasts high-end skating ability and he possesses a great deal of hockey sense.

Future

Projects as a top six forward, and could one day play on the top line at the NHL level. Jarnkrok will spend one final season in the Elitserien in 2012-13 before coming to North America, and possibly straight to Detroit, in 2013-14.

Detroit's run through the first round of the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs was surprising to many. Perhaps more surprising is depth of talent they have in their pipeline. The Detroit Red Wings boast some exceptional prospects who have the potential to be future stars in the NHL. The following awards feature the Red Wings prospects who stood out above the rest. The fact that no player won multiple awards is indicative of the depth of Detroit's talent pool.

Any team that loses three of its top six defensemen over the course of two seasons is bound to experience some growing pains as the organization looks to reload. While the current Detroit Red Wings roster may feature a blue line in flux, the future looks bright for Detroit's defensive depth. The Red Wings have a number of defensemen in their system that have developed their game a great deal during the 2012-13 season, including some who have already joined the NHL club. Detroit may have fewer forwards playing in the NCAA or Europe than defensemen but that is not an indictment of their quality, as that group features at least two players who appear to be future NHL players.

Spring is just around the corner, and as the weather heats up so too does the on-ice action in leagues around the world. As we reach the end of the season in junior hockey and the stretch run in professional hockey we pause to look back at how prospects in the Detroit Red Wings organization have progressed since the puck first dropped last fall.

A paradigm shift occurred for the Detroit Red Wings after the 2004-05 NHL lockout. Gone were the days where Detroit would readily hand out early-round draft picks in exchange for veteran NHL talent. Instead, Detroit decided that they would need to hold on to their draft choices in order to build a prospect pool with skill and size that would help them compete in the new-look NHL.
