History

Orpik, the brother of Penguins draftee Brooks Orpik, played the past two seasons for Thayer Academy in New England. Orpik picked up 20 points for Thayer in 2004-05.

2006-07: Orpik played in 38 games with Boston College, including 23 Hockey East contests. He registered nine points (3+6). He scored a third period goal in a 5-2 season-opening home win over Northeastern on Oct. 10 and tallied two assists at Providence on Oct. 31.

2007-08: Orpik played in 41 games during his Junior campaign with Boston College, including 24 Hockey East contests. A shoulder injury sidelined the forward for three games (2/29 – 3/7). He registered 13 points (7+6); recorded 10 points (5+5) in league play. He notched one power-play goal on the season. He scored the first of BC’s six goals in a 6-1 win over North Dakota on Apr. 10 in the NCAA Tournament’s Frozen Four championship game. He assisted on Brian Gibbons’ man-advantage tally in BC’s 4-0 blank over Vermont on Mar. 22 in the Hockey East Tournament title game.

Talent Analysis

Orpik is a tough player that has very good size and strength.  Since converting to forward, he has relied on physical play and defensive prowess to make an impact.  Because of these traits, he can be a valuable player despite his deficiencies on offense.  As an NHL prospect, he projects as a checking line player that can provide a spark with a big hit.

Future

Orpik will return to BC for his senior year, and will have a leadership role with the team after some key departures.
