History

Having not opted into the 2004 NHL draft, Aiello was taken 129th overall in 2005. The Braintree, MA native enjoyed an outstanding season at Thayer Academy in 2004-05 that culminated with his selection to the All-New England Division I East First Team. He posted 34 points (7 goals, 27 assists) in 25 appearances for the Tigers this past season.

Aiello, a player heavily recruited by Hockey East schools, join fellow USHSE draft eligible players Benn Ferriero and Kyle Kucharski at Boston College in 2005.

2005-06: Aiello became a staple on the Boston College blueline this season, playing alongside sophomore Mike Brennan. The Braintree, MA native played in 40 games this season, posting nine points (one goal, eight assists). His first and only goal of the season came in the Frozen Four semi-final game versus North Dakota back on April 6.

Talent Analysis

Aiello is a smooth skating defenseman. He moves well for a player his size and skates with nice, long strides. He’s player who can often be found jumping up into the play as well. While Aiello is not overly physical, he has shown a willingness to play the body and makes good use of his 6’1/195 lbs. frame and long reach. He is instinctive and follows plays quite well. Aiello possesses good puck skills showing both poise and confidence with the puck. He has a quick release, hard shot and will shoot as often as the opportunity presents itself. He is also solid in the defensive zone.
