History
Denny burst onto the radars of many scouts with a strong early-season performance. A bit of an unknown coming into the 2004-05 season, he flourished under Lewiston’s run-and-gun, physical system, playing his brand of heavy-hitting physicality with solid offensive instincts on a regular basis. Though hampered by injuries that cost him 17 games in the regular season, Denny finished third on the Maineiacs in hits, and posted very respectable offensive numbers.
Hockey's Future's July 2006 Q&A with Denny.
2006-07: Denny continued to improve his offense, scoring numbers from the blue line that look like those of a forward. He finished sixth among QMJHL defensemen in the regular season with 65 points in 59 games, and was also a solid +33. He won several awards as defenseman of the week, and even won offensive player of the week in March as well.
Talent Analysis
Denny is known for his intimidating slapshot, which has been clocked at 97 mph. The 6'3, 227-pounder is a physical presence and throws a good hit. He also plays good defense in his own end. But his mobility is somewhat limited and he does not have good acceleration. He might be well served to slim down and increase his footspeed.
Future
Denny has some good qualities, but is still a long ways away from putting it all together.
