History

Born in Brooklyn, Christian Jensen's family moved to Plainfield, New Jersey when Jensen was still young. Playing roller hockey in his youth, Jensen began playing ice hockey at age 11 for the Brick, New Jersey youth program.

In 2003-04 Jensen played for the New Jersey Jr. Titans of the Atlantic Junior Hockey League. Jensen was named the AJHL's Rookie of the Year on the strength of 8 goals and 21 assists in 48 games.

Unrated by Central Scouting Service, the San Jose Sharks rolled the dice and took Jensen with the 289th pick overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

2007-08: This was Jensen’s sophomore year with the RPI Engineers (ECAC). He recorded seven points (2g+5a) in 31 games with the club.

Talent Analysis

Jensen is rather impressive for having started high-level organized hockey so late. Jensen is a good skater with good lateral mobility and has the skating stride of a professional defenseman. Jensen's backwards acceleration could use a little improvement, and his speed while handling the puck needs to improve.

Also impressive, especially considering how early he is into his development, is Jensen's defensive awareness. Jensen is a defense-first blueliner who is almost always in the right spot and seems to intrinsically know where to go and read off of his blueline partner and forward teammates.

Jensen uses his size fairly well in the corners and in front of the net, but does so fairly. Jensen will need to play defense with two hands in his own zone to prevent obstruction calls at higher levels.
