History

The lone German selected in the 2005 NHL Draft, Philippe Gogulla spent the 2004-05 season with Cologne of the German Elite League. Gogulla has also spent time with the junior German National program.

2006-07: In his third season with Kolner of the DEL, Gogulla tallied eight goals and 21 points through 44 games. He also appeared in six games for the German National U20 and top squads, tallying six assists at the WJC and another five helpers at the WC.

2007-08: This marked the winger’s fourths eason with Kolner Haie (DEL), where he tallied 11 goals and 44 points in 51 games. Those are his highest numbers to date. He also suited up for the German National Team, netting a goal and four points in six games at the World Championships.

2008-09: Gogulla spent another season with Kolner Haie (DEL), netting 17 goals and 38 points in 48 appearances. He also tallied an assist in six games at the WC. Expect to see him make his way to North America next season, either suiting up with Buffalo or Portland.

2009-10: Phillipe finally made the move across the Atlantic, playing in 76 games with Portland of the AHL. In his time, he put up 10 goals and 35 points, and helped the team in three playoff games.

Talent Analysis

With good size and an ability to set up teammates, Gogulla can be an effective player on offense.  He is not a gifted player in the open ice, but can contribute along the boards and in the corners.

Future

After taking a step forward in the top German league, Gogulla will need to prove himself in the AHL if he wants to ultimately make the Buffalo roster.
