History
After being ranked fourth among European Goalies by CSS, Greiss was drafted by the Sharks in the 3rd round (94th overall) of the 2004 entry draft.interview with him.
2007-08: The Koln, Germany native saw some NHL action this season, appearing in three games for San Jose, where he went 0-1-0-1 and was 43/50 in shots. He was sent back to Worcester (AHL), where he finished the season. In his second year in the AHL, the goaltender went 18-21-0 with a 3.09 goals against average and a .892 save percentage.
2003-04: Greiss spent the majority of the season with the Cologne Jr. Sharks of the German Junior League (DNL), playing 1286 minutes, with a .910 save percentage and a 2.61 goals against average.
2004-05: Played his first season in the DEL for the Cologne Sharks. In 8 games, he posted a 2.09 GAA and .936 save percentage.
2005-06: Greiss enjoyed a breakout season for the Cologne Sharks (DEL). After taking over the starting position for injured netminder Oliver Jonas, he finished the season with a 15-7-1 record, a DEL third-best save percentage of .926, and a DEL sixth-best goals-against average of 2.46. His impressive performance earned him a spot on the German national team for the Deutschland Cup, a four-team tournament featuring Germany, Switzerland, USA and Canada. Greiss also earned a spot on Team Germany for the 2006 Winter Olympics. At 20 years of age, he was the youngest goaltender in the tournament, and had a 35 save performance on 40 shots against Team Canada.

Talent Analysis
One of the top goaltending prospects to come out of Germany in recent years, Greiss was one of the top statistical goalies in the DEL. He plays a calm, focused game, and one of his strongest assets is his ability to read and anticipate plays. Because of this is he is usually one step ahead of shooters and is therefore able to rely on excellent positioning to make his saves. At 6’1 195 lbs, Greiss has good size and strength, particularly in his legs.
