History

2006-07: Backstopped his hometown high school team in International Falls. Selected by the RoughRiders in the 9th round of the 2006 USHL Entry Draft with the 100th overall pick.
 
2007-08: Played for U.S. Under-18 Select Team at the August 2007 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in the Czech Republic before joining Cedar Rapids for his first season in the USHL. Was able to showcase talent early on. Emerged as team’s no.1 goalie thereafter. Earned back-to-back goalie of week honors to open up the season after going 2-0 and stopping 60-63 shots in his first games in the league. Played for Team USA at the 2007 World Junior A Challenge. Named to Eastern Division team for the USHL Prospects/All-Star Game. Earned goalie honors again in the third week of February after earning a 5-1 win against Tri-City.

Talent Analysis

Hjelle has good poise, is very competitive and is also very athletic. Is good at challenging shooters, working well in traffic and picking up the puck. Does well with his rebound placement is able to handle the puck effectively.

Future

Hjelle committed to the University of Minnesota Duluth.
