History

2007-08: Archibald played for the Detroit Honeybaked Midget team, scoring eight goals and adding 22 assists for that team.  He was chosen in the fourth round of the 2008 OHL Priority Selection by the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

2008-09: In his OHL rookie season with the Greyhounds, Archibald appeared in 61 games, picking up eight assists and 45 penalty minutes in those games.

2009-10: In 68 games for the Greyhounds, Archibald scored 5 goals and added 28 assists for 33 points while posting 81 penalty minutes.  In 5 playoff games, Archibald scored 1 goal and added 1 assist for 2 points.  Archibald played for Team Cherry at the 2010 CHL Top Prospects Game, picking up an assist on the game winning goal.

2010-11: Archibald went from being an offensive leader from his defensive spot on a last-place club to a more traditional defenseman's role with a first place team after a mid-season OHL trade from Sault Ste. Marie to the Saginaw Spirit. After scoring 2 goals with 17 assists in 37 games for the Greyhounds prior to the trade, he had 3 assists and was a troublesome -13 with 34 PMs in 29 games for Saginaw. In eight playoff games for the Spirit he was scoreless and -4 with 2 PMs.

Talent Analysis

Archibald is a solid skater with an adept hockey sense. At 6'4 and 200lbs, he has decent size which he uses to his advantage in clearing the front of the net. He doesn't excel at one area more than the other, rather, he is a good all around defenseman. He's great at finding openings on the point on the powerplay and can also shut down team's top players on the penalty kill. Archibald plays a very safe defensive game at times, however, which limits his offensive potential. Moreover, he needs to improve his ability to make outlet passes with precision.

Future

He'll be returning to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds for what will likely be his final year of junior hockey. He is at least a few years away from the NHL.
