His strong play resulted in him landing a spot on the playoff roster with the Baie Comeau Drakkar (QMJHL). In four games he registered two goals and two assits.
2006-07: On the strength of his brief playoff stint, Labrie earned a spot on the Drakkar team. As an overager, Labrie scored 63 points (including 35 goals) in 68 games.
2007-08: His seven goals and 11 assists was a nice surprise for the big Baie-Comeau native who was completely unknown on the west coast until the Canucks signed him.
Talent Analysis
Labrie is a big, physical player who is effective when parked in front of the net collecting rebounds, deflecting the puck and creating a screen. He knows where he's expected to be in the offensive zone which can make him an effective player on the cycle. His most glaring weakness is his skating. While his direction-changing and turning isn't too bad, he's extremely slow at this point and also needs to work on his conditioning.
Future
Labrie had a surprisingly effective first season as a pro but expectations must be tempered. Labrie’s limited skating will prevent him from ever being more than a role player at any level.
