History
Rome began his WHL career playing for Saskatoon before being traded to Kootenay and finally landing with Swift Current. The Broncos were looking to add size to the defensive corps but ended up with so much more. During the 2001-2002 campaign, Rome immediately contributed 31 points and 168 PIMs. In the 2002-03 season with the Broncos, Rome was 2nd amongst defensemen with 56 points, tied for 3rd on the team with 44 assists and lead the team with 41 powerplay points while racking up 199 PIMs.
2003-04: Rome and the Los Angeles Kings were unable to come to terms on a contract, therefore Rome is continuing his development as an overager with Swift Current.
Talent Analysis
Rome is a self-described stay at home defenseman who can add a little offense. He is a strong skater with great positioning and solid puck-handling and passing skills. With his exceptional vision and awareness he can anticipate the play. His offensive game and shot from the point has improved as he has seen increased powerplay time. He can be physical when necessary and plays with a bit of an edge.
Future
His window of opportunity is quickly closing.
