2008-09: : Volpatti skated in 32 of 33 games for Brown University as a junior. He was the Bears' fifth-leading scorer with 6 goals and 7 assists and was -13 with 54 PMs. Brown swept fourth-place Harvard in a first round playoff series after winning just three regular season games and finishing last in the ECAC Hockey League. The Bears were swept by Yale in the quarterfinals.
2009-10: Volpatti signed an entry level contract with the Vancouver Canucks in March 2010 after completing his senior season at Brown. He made his pro debut with the Canucks' AHL affiliate in Manitoba and posted 1 goal, 1 assist, and 17 PMs in 8 games. Volpatti skated in five of six playoff games for the Moose and scored 1 goal with a +1 plus/minus and 21 PMs. In 37 games for Brown he scored 17 goals with 15 assists, and was +4 with 115 PMs.
2010-11: Volpatti made his NHL debut in December and skated in 15 games with the Canucks before being returned to AHL Manitoba. He scored his only goal in his second NHL game and had 1 assist with 16 PMs and a -1 plus/minus; averaging just under seven minutes of ice time during his time with Vancouver. In 53 games with the Moose he scored 2 goals with 9 assists and was -7 with 74 PMs. He played in 12 of Manitoba's 14 playoff games and was an even plus/minus with 1 goal, 2 assists and 36 PMs.
