Andrei Medvedev

Prospect Grade: 6.0 F  (About Prospect Grades)

Profile Contributed By: Lawrence Bailey

History

Medvedev has had a very tumultuous few years, with his performances being as inconsistent as his weight. He generally tips the scales at around 230 pounds, however he has ballooned as high as 260. He was the top up and coming Russian netminder for a few years before being passed by the younger Konstantin Barulin in the 2002-03 season.

The 2003-04 season has seen Medvedev play consistent yet unspectacular hockey despite being in the Upper League (one step below the elite Russian Super Leagues).

Talent Analysis

Medvedev is a talented goaltender who has the potential to prosper, but what he lacks is discipline and work ethic. He is also physically overweight despite his large size.

He has showed signs of his talent in his gold medal winning performance at the 2001 Under 18 World Junior Championships. At that tournament he has been known to simply not practice before a match.

Future

A high-risk, high-reward pick on draft day, Medvedev doesn't look like he will make it.
