History

Andrej Sekera appeared in 42 games for the junior squad, posting 5 goals, 12 assists, and an impressive +37 rating. He also earned a brief cup of coffee with the Trencin ‘B’ Club (1st division) for 5 games and the ‘A’ club (Extraleague) for 3 games and did not look overwhelmed in the least.  Sekera also appeared for the Slovaks at the Viking Cup and 4-Nations tournament.

Sekera was chosen in the third round, 71st overall, of the 2004 NHL Draft by the Buffalo Sabres.

Sekera was the OHL’s Defenseman of the Year in 2005-06.

Talent Analysis

Sekera is a smart player with a nice finesse game.  He is a crisp passer and strong skater, and made the most of his opportunity in the NHL late last season.  He relies on positioning and reading the play in his own end, but is not afraid to take the body.  He has shown leadership ability, and has been a captain.

Future
Sekera was dealt by the Carolina Hurricanes to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Roland McKeown and either a 2015 or 2016 first round pick.
