Brett Palin

Prospect Grade: 5.5 C  (About Prospect Grades)

History

After five seasons, one WHL championship, one Memorial Cup championship, and three years as captain of the WHL's Kelowna Rockets, overager Brett Palin was signed as a free agent by the Calgary Flames on August 5th, 2005. In the preceding year he was instrumental in helping his team to the Memorial Cup. While on the way, he played a huge role in both shutting down Gilbert Brule and his Vancouver Giants, and scoring big time, clutch goals like the game winner versus the Medicine Hat Tigers in a tension filled round robin Memorial Cup game.

Talent Analysis

Upon first entering junior as a 16 year old he was regarded as more of an offensive defenseman, but he became more defensive as his junior career rolled along. Now in professional hockey he seems to be staying the course by maintaining a sound defensive game. He is a big physical defenseman who is a natural leader both on and off the ice.

Future

After finishing his first season of pro hockey, Palin did not look out of place. He led the team in plus/ minus and played in 64 games. While it's highly unlikely that he'll make the Flames, he should have no problem reclaiming his spot patrolling the blueline for the Knights.
