In a Pioneer Press article titled “Burnsville Brock Boeser can’t wait to be a Badger,” Boeser told Press staff writer Garrison Shepard that the University of Wisconsin was his “dream school.” His cousin, Dan, who was an assistant coach at Burnsville while Brock was there, played at Wisconsin from 2000-2004. There’s a large sign at the entrance of the Holiday Inn in Dubuque, host city of the 2015 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, that lists the number of NHL Draft picks that have come out of the United States Hockey League (USHL) in recent years. In 2010, 22 players were selected. Last year it was 35, plus 16 alums that were drafted out of NCAA hockey. This year, 54 USHL players, plus six alums, are listed on NHL Central Scouting’s “Watch List” and have the potential to be selected this year. Read more»
The competition to become the top selection at the 2015 NHL Draft is almost assuredly a two-horse race between Erie Otters forward Connor McDavid and Boston University forward Jack Eichel. This summer, a number of young players from across the United States were selected to play for the US at the relatively unknown 5 Nations Tournament, a contest for various U17 teams held in Slovakia. The competition consisted of the opponents Germany, Slovakia, Switzerland and the Czech Republic and play was conducted in a simple round robin format.
