History
5th round, 150th overall by Ottawa in 2002
Hooton was drafted out of Quesnel of the BCHL. His final season (2001-02) in the BCHL saw him claim the MVP honors for the annual league all-star game as well as being a First Team All-Star. Hooton was then drafted in the fifth round by the Senators before heading to St. Cloud State University. His first season saw him receive third or fourth line ice time and little else. Hooton only put up seven points in his freshman year. In his sophomore season, he amassed 16 points (6 goals, 10 assists) in 36 games.

Talent Analysis
Hooton is a forward who can usually be found as the “trailer” on the rush into the offensive zone. When he scores his goals, more often than not it is likely off of a rebound or a goal-mouth scramble. Hooton is an also an opportunistic player. If he finds an opening and has the puck, he’ll fire it on net. He possesses a quick release and his passing is very good. He has shown that he can grind out plays and is quite good along the boards. Hooton is a solid defensive player as well. He is aggressive on his checks as well as challenging opposing players for puck possession. His very good passing skills allows him to excel in setting up his teammates, as well as help support the play. While Hooton isn’t afraid to play the body, he doesn’t do it often enough.
Future
He possesses size and speed but he needs to develop his game a fair bit.
