History
Pitton started playing hockey for the Brampton Youth Hockey Association in 1996-97. He is the first graduate of the BYHA to play for the Brampton Battalion; he was drafted in the sixth round of the 2004 OHL Draft,
2004-05: Pitton played for the Wellington Dukes of the Ontario Provincial Junior A League. He posted a 24-7-3 record with a GAA of 2.93 and two shutouts. He was named Wellington’s Rookie of the Year.
2005-06: Pitton shared goaltending duties with Daren Machesney during his rookie season, but when he was given the opportunity to play, he played solid. In 24 appearances Pitton went 16-4 with a GAA of 3.43 and a save percentage of .904. He tied Machesney’s team record for rookie wins. Pitton went on to win his last seven games.
2006-07: Became the starter for the Battalion and saw action in 61 games but the team was weak and Pitton had a losing record and unflattering stats to match.
2007-08: Missed a month at the start of the year due to a high ankle sprain suffered at Oiler training camp but went on to have a OHL All-Star season. Ended the season in the minors making 1 appearance with Springfield (AHL) in relief. Signed by the Oilers in the off-season.
Talent Analysis
Pitton has been a work in progress but has come a long way from his draft year. Has good size, sideways mobility and positioning but can improve in those areas too. Rebound control, as with most young goalies, is an area to focus on. Terrific attitude and mental make-up. Well spoken and mature for his age.
Future
Pitton will make his professional debut and is almost assured to be the starter with the Stockton Thunder (ECHL) with the logjam at the position in the Oiler system.
