Registered an assist for the East at the OHL All-Star Classic. Played in the 2009 CHL Top Prospects Game and on Team Canada in the U18 world championships.
2009-10: In an injury riddled campaign, de Haan would only dress for 34 games, scoring 24 points for Oshawa. He would also suit up for Canada at the World Juniors, adding an assist.
2010-11: De Haan showed no ill effects from the shoulder injury that ended his previous year and was one of the top defenseman in junior hockey – both for the OHL Oshawa Generals and with Team Canada. As the team captain for Oshawa, de Haan was a steadying force on the back end while contributing 42 assists, tops among Oshawa defensemen. He also scored 6 goals with 48 PMs and was +13 for an Oshawa club that finished second in the East Division after missing the OHL playoffs in de Haan's first two seasons. Playing for Team Canada at the 2011 World Junior U-20 tournament, de Haan was an assistant captain and was +2 with 5 assists in six games for the silver medal squad.
2011-12: De Haan made his NHL debut in a December 15th game with the Islanders — seeing 13 minutes of ice time and finishing plus-one in a 3-2 loss to Dallas. De Haan spent the rest of the year with Islanders' affiliate Bridgeport and was selected to play in the AHL All-Star game. He scored 2 goals with 14 assists and was minus-one with 24 penalty minutes in 56 games with the Sound Tigers. Bridgeport lost for Rangers' affiliate Connecticut in a first round playoff series and De Haan was an even plus-minus with 2 assists in three playoff games.
