History
2008-09: Cody Beach, a third round pick of the Calgary Hitmen at the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft, played in 3 games for the Hitmen. he registered no points in those games. Beach is the brother of Chicago Blackhawks' prospect Kyle Beach.
2009-10: In his WHL rookie season, Beach played in 51 games for the Hitmen. He scored 3 goals and added 11 assists for 14 points while also racking up 157 penalty minutes. In 19 playoff games for the Hitmen , Beach scored 1 goal and added 7 assists for 8 points to go along with a +10 rating and 57 penalty minutes. He was named the Hitmen's Rookie of the Year.
2010-11: Beach skated for the Calgary Hitmen and Moose Jaw Warriors in his second WHL season, appearing in 57 games before suffering a season-ending knee injury in March. He opened the season with 5 goals and 10 assists along with 73 PMs in 17 games for Calgary before being acquired by Moose Jaw as part of a multi-player trade in November 2010. In 40 games with Moose Jaw he scored 6 goals with 28 assists and had a team-high 163 PMs with an even plus/minus. Beach signed an entry-level, three-year contract with St. Louis in July 2011.
2011-12: Beach signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Blues in July 2011 and attended St. Louis' camp before returning to Moose Jaw for his fourth WHL season. He was the second-leading scorer for the Warriors while leading all WHL players with 229 penalty minutes. He scored 15 goals with 41 assists and was plus-12 in 58 games for a Moose Jaw team that finished first in the East Division and reach the playoff semifinals. Beach scored 4 goals with 6 assists in 13 playoff games and was plus-two with 29 penalty minutes.
Talent Analysis
Beach is a huge power forward at 6'5 and physical enforcer. He can get under the opponent's skin and is willing to drop the gloves. He will need to continue to fill out his frame and improve his skating to make an impact at the pro level.
Future
Beach will start his first pro year at the ECHL level but could see time in Peoria if the big winger can show some offense to his game. It could be the NHL lockout that keeps him from playing regularly for the Rivermen.
