History

2008-09: Durocher scored 7 goals with 20 assists and 16 PIM for Gloucester in the CJHL.

2009-10: Durocher scored 15 goals with 11 assists and was -5 with 26 PIM in 66 games as a rookie with Kingston in the OHL. He scored 2 goals and was +3 with 4 PIM in the Frontenacs seven-game first round playoff series loss to Brampton.

2010-11: Durocher increased his offensive output while playing sound two-way hockey in his second season with Kingston (OHL). In 63 games he scored 14 goals with 23 assists and was -5 with 26 PMs for the Frontenacs. In five OHL playoff games he had 1 assist and was -5 with 2 PMs. Durocher was traded to the Soo Greyhounds in June 2011.

Talent Analysis

Durocher skates well at 6’3, and has the hands and skill to have a shot at the next level, but he needs to add more weight and muscle beyond his listed 183 pounds before he can be considered for the NHL. He has improved his offensive skill set somewhat, though he is still a project at this point.

Future

Durocher will play in the OHL this season, and probably the next. He is a player that projects as a bottom-line role player, but is still a few years away from contributing at the NHL level.

The 2014 NHL Draft figures to be an interesting one when it comes to players being selected out of Finland. The general consensus on the draft as a whole is that the talent pool drops off significantly after the first handful of prospects with the next group all very similar with little separating them. The same can be said of the prospects coming out of Finland this year.

After a banner year in 2013 at the NHL Draft, the QMJHL appears to have settled back to more familiar levels when it comes to the draft class of 2014. While there may be no Nathan MacKinnon or Jonathan Drouin to highlight the list of eligible players this year, it is another Halifax Moosehead, Nikolaj Ehlers, who appears set to be the first QMJHL player to hear his name called on Friday night in Philadelphia.

The New York Rangers recent long run through the 2014 postseason took many surprise. A solid team, well coached to highlight its strengths, New York's playoff success was a group effort. The team's top marquee player, Rick Nash, was not very effective during the playoffs, however, the team's speed and signature defense caused opponents quite a bit of trouble.
