History

2008-09: Signed as a free agent after completing his senior year with the Ohio St. University.  After playing sparingly for the Badgers through his first three seasons, Elkins came on strong as a senior.  His 41 points in 42 games led the team and nearly tripled his previous season high for points.

2009-10: In his first professional season Elkins posted 21 goals, 22 assists in 73 games with the Manchester Monarchs. He also made his NHL debut, playing in three games and registering one goal.

Talent Analysis

High energy forward that can contribute from a third line.  Not offensively talented enough to be productive as a top six forward, but solid enough on both sides of the ice to be trusted on special teams.

Future

Added to the Manchester roster for the 2009-10 season for depth.  He is a longshot to make it to the NHL, but if players like Gabe Gauthier, Brady Murray and Matt Ryan have proved anything, it is that even a high energy forechecker can find his way into Staples Center for a brief moment in the spotlight.
