Cory Urquhart
Prospect Grade: 4.0 C (About Prospect Grades)
History
Urquhart spent the 1999-00 season playing Midget AAA hockey with Dartmouth in Nova Scotia. The Quebec Remparts selected him in the 2nd round, 21st overall, of the 2000 QMJHL Draft. He spent the 2000-01 season with Quebec (finishing third in team scoring), where he played until December 2001, when he was traded along with Jeff MacAuley, Mike Bray and Yan Turcotte to the Montreal Rocket, in return for Chris Montgomery, Karl St-Pierre and Pierre-Olivier Beaulieu. Urquhart was also invited to camp for Canada's men's under-18 team for the 6 Nations Tournament, but was released.
In 2002-03, Urquhart rounded out his raw skill. While he still isn't smooth, his game is improving and so is his role. He has pretty much ceased making those plays off the right wing, but he centered the second line and won about 50% of his faceoffs.
Talent Analysis
Urquhart is still raw, but the upside is definately there. The Halifax native enjoys coming down the right wing to create some offense. He usually brings the puck to his backhand, and will follow up with a dangerous pass or impressive move. His stickhandling and skating skills aren't smooth, but they should round out with development, and once they do, he will be an even more dangerous offensive threat.
