History

2006-07: Brown continued his a dramatic improvement in 2006-07. After finishing with a winning percentage of .239 during his sophomore and junior campaigns, and after posting a 4.30 goals-against average as a sophomore, Brown developed into arguably the best goaltender in the NCAA during his senior year. Brown led the nation in wins with 30 at Notre Dame and in goals-against average at 1.58, and was second in the nation with six shutouts and a .931 save percentage. He capped his outstanding season with a CCHA Player of the Year award and a runner-up finish for the Hobey Baker award.

Brown had an outstanding rookie campaign at the University of Notre Dame. He posted a 14-7-3 that included four shutouts in 26 games played. He also posted a 2.32 goals against average and a .925 save percentage in the 2003-04 season. His 2.32 GAA ranked him 17th in the nation, while his .925 save percentage ranked him seventh in the nation in each respective category. His four shutouts, goals against average and save percentage along with 193:27 consecutive minutes of not allowing a goal were all new Notre Dame single-season records. Brown earned four CCHA Rookie of the Week honors (for weeks ending October 20th, November 3rd, December 1st and March 1st). After posting three shutouts, including one against top-ranked Boston College on October 24th, Brown earned the Hockey Commissioners Association’s (HCA) national Rookie of the Month Award for the month of October. He also earned Defensive Player of the Week honors for the week ending January 12th after posting a school record fourth shutout versus Bowling Green State University on January 10th. Brown also earned an honorable mention to the CCHA All-Rookie Team.

Prior to coming to Notre Dame, Brown played for the Hamilton Kilty Bees of the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League in 2002-03. He posted a 38-8-3 record, playing in 35 games. He also posted a 3.11 goals against average and a .881 save percentage. He was a member of Team Ontario’s bronze medal winning squad at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge in Winnipeg, Ontario in 2002. In the 2001 OHL Draft, the Mississauga Ice Dogs selected Brown in the fifth round.

Talent Analysis

Brown is a goaltender who possesses excellent reflexes and athleticism. He is good down low and on his angles. An ability that Brown excels at is his use of his blocker to deflect shots away from the crease area. He reads and follows plays quite well. He possesses a great work ethic. He has shown a willingness to challenge shooters also. Brown shows remarkable composure and focus under pressure. He has also shown that he doesn’t get rattled too easily.
