Denis Kulyash

Prospect Grade: 7.0 D  (About Prospect Grades)

History

Kulyash is one of CSKA’s (Moscow Red Army) young developing defensemen. Kulyash played in Russia’s High League Division since 1999, starting his senior career with Avangard Omsk 2. He was then transferred to Gazovik Tyumen for the 2000-01 season. Kulyash was picked up by CSK VVS-2 Samara, where he played the 2002-03 season along with Buffalo prospect Denis Ezhov. CSKA brass must have liked what they saw bringing Kulyash to play 2003-04 with Red Army.

2005-06: Kulyash played 44 games, scoring 12 goals and four assists while accumulating 115 penalty minutes for Moscow Dynamo.

Talent Analysis

Kulyash is still a raw prospect, but he does have size on his side. He is willing to get involved with the physical side of the game and clears the front of the net well. He has a decent shot and is strong in his own zone. He still has problems on the rush and can be beaten one on one by skilled players. He needs to become more aware of his positional play.

One scout told affiliate RussianProspects.com that Kulyash still has a long way to go before he becomes a solid blueliner.
