History

2007-08: The big Russian rearguard was a regular in the Russian league, setting a career high for games played.  Not known as a scorer, Kosmachev played his steady game, using his big body to defend his end of the ice.  Kosmachev led his team in games played by a defenseman, but remained remarkably disciplined, taking far less penalties than other defenders.

Talent Analysis

Kosmachev has good size, but is not overly physical. He is still effective in locking down opposing forwards. His disciplined play is unique, as you will rarely see him in the penalty box.

The strength of Kosmachev's game lies in his positioning and vision on the ice. He's not overly fast, nor agile, yet never seems to be out of place.

His puck handling skills are solid for a defenseman, although he has a tendancy to over-handle the puck in his own end, rather than making the outlet pass. His shot has also come into question, simply because it is not used nearly enough.

Kosmachev is mentally tough. He does not allow himself to get too high, nor too low. He's very tough to upset on the ice, never losing his composure.
