Emil Axelsson

Prospect Grade: 4.5 B  (About Prospect Grades)

Profile Contributed By: Johan Nilsson

History

Emil Axelsson was virtually unknown before this season. He had been playing tier II junior hockey but was now ready to play for Örebro in the second tier league. Axelsson quickly displayed a good overall game along with his young teammate Carl Gunnarsson.

2006-07: Defensive prospect Emil Axelsson has bounced around quite a bit this season. He began the 2006-07 season playing for Aroboga of the Swedish division 2 league, his second consecutive year on the team. In 39 games played, Axelsson scored seven goals, 12 assists for 19 points and 62 penalty minutes. During that time, he was also bumped up to play with Linkoping HC of the Swedish Elite League, the highest level of play he has experienced yet. However, midway through the season, Axelsson was moved to Vasteras IK, a team, like Aroboga, that plays in the Swedish division 2 league. Vasteras IK made the playoffs but the team was swept in their first round of play.

Talent Analysis

Axelsson is an aggressive defenseman that definitely does not shy away from the rough stuff. He enjoys using his body as much as possible and sometimes his stick too. Axelsson gives out cheap shots from time to time. Being of such a large stature he is a quite capable skater and he doesn’t hesitate to join the rush. He has great size and is quite physical and even a bit dirty.

Future

During the U18 World Junior Championships Axelsson’s team Örebro was relegated from the second tier league and we will most likely see him play for a new team next season.
