History

2007-08: Put up decent numbers, playing in 40 games where he racked up 22 points in the U20 league for Assat. He also represented Team Finland at the 2008 U18 tournament, where he tallied a goal and three assists in six games.

2008-09: With Shattuck St. Mary's, he racked up 22 goals and 49 assists. Roomed with Swede Alexander Fallstrom.

Haula speaks nearly flawless English.  His father used to coach American football in Finland, and he had Americans staying in his house growing up who taught him English. Also speaks Swedish.

2011-12: Haula was the leading scorer for WCHA champion Minnesota as a sophomore. He scored 20 goals with 29 assists in 43 games and was plus-17 with 30 penalty minutes. He scored 8 power play goals for the Golden Gophers. Minnesota won the regular season title but were upset in the WCHA tournament by North Dakota. The Gophers returned the favor in the NCAA tournament – defeating North Dakota in the West Regional final to reach the Frozen Four.

 

Talent Analysis

Haula is an incredible passer and has good speed to go along with it.  He's only 5'11 though and quite light yet. Excellent character.

 

Future

Currently playing his junior season at the University of Minnesota, and could use another year or two of seasoning.

This one was almost a no-brainer.

Ryan Strome’s phenomenal performance in the month made him the easy selection as the Hockey’s Future Prospect of the Month for November.

Minnesota Wild’s prospect pool boasts top-end talent and character

The Wild is still in the midst of a controlled rebuilding process. While the team has added immediate help at the NHL level for some areas of deficiency, most notably an elite top-pairing defenseman in Ryan Suter, an underrated top-four defenseman in Tom Gilbert, and an all-star scoring winger in Zach Parise, a few barren years at the draft kept the team from contention recently. Very strong drafts in 2010 and 2011, punctuated by the trade for Charlie Coyle, have put the team in excellent shape to be contenders soon. The core might be able to take advantage of the NHL lockout to grow together at the AHL level. Part of the Minnesota mentality is knowing there is a long winter ahead to test for weaknesses. With luck, this group of prospects will emerge strong and battle-tested.

The Wild's system was bolstered again at the 2012 NHL Draft, with Red Deer defenseman Matt Dumba immediately jumping into the top five. While the team did not graduate many players last season, the team willingly parted ways with a few prospects that did not look to be part of the program going forward. None of the 2012 draftees are very close to cracking an NHL roster, but several have enough upside to be included here.
