Geoff Waugh

Profile Contributed By: Geoffrey Ussery

History

Waugh was a draftee out of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. He was one of the more respected defensemen in the league earning First All-Star Team honors at the conclusion of the 2001-02 season in which his team was crowned the league champion. Waugh then accepted a scholarship to play with Northern Michigan of the CCHA. In his first college season, Waugh played very solidly for Northern Michigan. He played nearly every game for the school and finished the season with a few assists and a solid plus-minus rating.

Waugh again spent 2004-05 as part of the Wildcats top defensive pairing with team captain Nathan Oystrick (ATL), and the two compliment each other extremely well. Waugh uses his outstanding size well in playing more of a defensive defenseman role. He also plays with a lot of intensity, never shying away from the physical aspects of his position.

Talent Analysis

Strengths: Waugh is a very good defender both positionally and physically. He will not back down and plays a very steady stay at home game.

Weaknesses: limited offensively.
