History

Shafigulin once again played for Yaroslavl in the Russian Superleague in 2004-05, a team known for favoring more experienced players over youngsters. In 46 games for the Locomotiv, Shafigulin picked up 10 points (5 goals, 5 assists). The Chelyabinsk, Russia native also represented his country at the 2005 World Junior Championships, playing mostly on the squad’s checking line.

2006-07: The forward called Lokomotiv Yaroslavl (RUS) home this season, recording 21 points (5g+16a) in 54 games with the club.

2007-08: Shafigulin hadn’t made the jump to North America last season, and this year was no different. He had a rough season centering for the Ak Bars Kazan (RUS), netting just five goals and as many assists in 39 games. He stood out in the PIM category, registering a career-high 112 minutes in the box.
