History

2004-05: Playing in 60 games for the Victory Honda Midget Major (Michigan), Cole notched 40 points (15 goals, 25 assists).

2005-06: Cole, a native of Ann Arbor got the chance to play in his hometown for the U-17 team where in 70 games he notched 16 points (four goals, 12 assists) and 103 PIM.  The 6’1, 211 lb defenseman also appeared in one game for the U-18 team, but was kept pointless.  Cole also recorded one assist in seven games for the silver medal winning USA squad at the 2006 World U-17 Hockey Challenge.

2006-07: Cole showed a lot of growth as he joined the U-18 team permanently.  In 49 games, Cole totaled 20 points (four goals, 16 assists) and 57 PIM.  Two of his four goals came on the power play.  He finished in the top three amongst NTDP defenseman in goals, assists, and points.  Cole also played strong against NCAA opposition.  In 23 games, Cole recorded eight points (two goals, six assists) and 27 PIM.  One of his goals was on the power play.  Heading into the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, NHL Central Scouting has Cole ranked as the 81st overall player, an improvement over his mid-term ranking of 113.

2007-08: This was Cole’s freshman season with the University of Notre Dame (CCHA). The defenseman appeared in 43 games with the club, registering eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points. His eight goals led all Irish defenseman. He had four power-play goals and two game-winners. He was selected CCHA Rookie of the Month for March and April. His first collegiate goal came on Nov. 23 vs. Alabama-Huntsville. He missed four games with playing for the U.S. Junior National Team (12/26 – 1/5). He scored the game-winner on the power play against Ferris State, sending the Irish to Detroit and the CCHA semifinals. He had four goals and three assists in nine postseason games. He was one of four Notre Dame defensemen with ties to the United States National Team Development Program, joining Kyle Lawson, Teddy Ruth and Sean Lorenz as USNTDP alums.

Talent Analysis

He’s strong in the corners and in front of his net. Tough to knock off his feet and moves the puck well in transition. Has a strong, accurate shot from the point.

Future

Cole attends the University of Notre Dame.Concussions history is a concern for his future.
