History

2007-08:  He made the team in his first attempt, serving as the back up to German import netminder Timo Pielmeier. When Pielmeier went down to injury early in the season (and later when he represented Germany in the World Junior Hockey Championships), Allen step in between the pipes. Things did not go all too smoothly for Allen, as prior to January 1st, he had posted a record of only three wins and eight losses, giving up four or more goals eight times. When Pielmeier returned, Allen went back to the bench for the bulk of the second half of the season. While he played irregularly, he still faced some top-flight teams, and finished the second half of the season with a record of six wins and four losses, limiting his big games. His improved second-half led to his invite to backstop Canada’s under-18 squad. It was in Russia where Allen would make his biggest splash, leading Canada to a clean sweep of all seven games, picking up two shutouts in the process, posting an astounding .948 save percentage, and leading Canada to the gold medal.

Talent Analysis

He displays excellent lateral movement and strong positional play, and has proven that he can play well when the focus is on him.  Allen is always on his toes and moves quickly between the pipes. He’s great at moving the puck, feeding the puck to open defenders to quickly spur on the attack. He’s also strong at controlling the puck when he makes a save, limiting rebounds and keeping square to the shooter.
