2007-08: Backstopping the St. John’s Fog Devils (QMJHL), Allen finished the season with a 9-12-0 record, a 3.14 goals against average and a .901 save percentage. On top of seeing QMJHL action, the netminder also represented Team Canada at the U-18 WC tournament. He went 6-1-0 with two shutouts and a 1.43 goals against average.
2008-09: Allen played for the Montreal Juniors (formerly the St. John’s Fog Devils) in 2008-09 and his stock definitely rose. During the season, the tall and lanky goaltender had 28 wins and 25 losses with a respectable .916 save percentage and a 2.86 goals against average. He also earned a spot on the QMJHL team for the 2008 ADT Canada-Russia Challenge.
2009-10: Allen played 27 games for the Montreal Juniors with an 11-11-0 record, 2.66 goals against average, and .912 save percentage. The netminder was traded midseason to the Drummondville Voltigeurs where he recorded an 18-3-0 record, 1.75 goals against average, and .933 save percentage. Between both stops, Allen went 29-14-0 with a 2.20 goals against average and .922 save percentage in his third year. His stellar season earned him the QMJHL’s Jacques Plante Trophy for best goaltender, as well as the CHL’s Goaltender of the Year award. Allen also backstopped Canada’s U-20 WJC team to a silver medal with a 2.06 goals against average and .902 save percentage in 5 games.
2010-11: Allen had a strong first pro season as a 20-year-old – appearing in 47 of 80 games for St. Louis’ AHL affiliate Peoria and being named to the AHL All-Star Game. Sharing the Rivermen goaltending duties with former University of Maine goalie Ben Bishop, Allen finished with a record of 25-22 with 3 losses in OT and had 6 shutouts with a 2.52 GAA and .917 save percentage. Allen started three of four playoff games as the Rivermen were swept by Houston and was 0-3 with a 3.80 GAA and .888 save percentage.
