Talent Analysis

Already a giant on draft day at 6'4", 218 pounds, Hakanpaa projects as a solid two-way defenseman. His defensive game is sound and he is more than willing to play the physical game. While he skates fairly well for a player his size, it is an area that could be improved. He has room to grow offensively as well.

Future

Hakanpaa was reassigned by the St. Louis Blues organization to play his second season for the Espoo Blues, Finland in the SM-liiga and continue his overall development in Europe on the bigger ice surface. He's expected to increase his offensive game and improve his skating over this year.

The St. Louis Blues prospect system is led by a pair of potential top-line forwards in Russian winger Vladimir Tarasenko and Saskatchewan native Jaden Schwartz. Both are dynamic players capable of piling up the points and it should not be long before the duo is lighting the lamps for the Blues.

Plenty of St. Louis prospects made noise during their team's respective postseason runs with several bringing home league championships. Two prospects were integral to Saint John's run toward their second consecutive QMJHL Championship while a third Quebec League prospect came out on top at the Memorial Cup. The Blues were also represented on the Swedish Elite League champion Brynas team. Several other prospects ranked among their league's top scorers during the playoffs despite falling short of the championship.
