2009-10: Nordstrom played at three different levels within the AIK organization in Sweden. The pivot played in 2 regular season games in the J18 Allsvenskan with 1 goal, 1 assist. He added 1 goal, 2 assists in 3 playoff appearances with the J18 team. Nordstrom spent most of the season with the AIK J20 team, where he scored 6 goals, 9 assists for 15 points in 28 games. The forward also made his Elitserien debut, skating in 2 games with AIK with no points.

2010-11: Nordstrom again suited up at several different levels in Sweden. He scored 9 goals, 11 assists in 25 games with the AIK J20 team, earning another 11 SEL games with the big club with 1 assist. He also skated in 12 Allsvenskan games on loan with Almtuna with 1 assist. Suiting up for Sweden's U19 team, he also registered 1 goal, 6 assists in 11 international matches.

2011-12: Nordstrom skated in 47 games during the regular season for AIK in his first full season in Sweden's Elitserien and was the assistant captain for gold medal-winning Sweden at the 2012 World Junior championship. Playing a lower line role for AIK, he scored 3 goals with 3 assists and was minus-10 with 4 penalty minutes. After finishing seventh during the season, AIK reached the playoff semifinals. Nordstrom skated in 10 of 12 playoff games for AIK and scored 1 goal with 2 assists; finishing with an even plus/minus and 2 penalty minutes. Nordstrom had the third-best plus/minus for Sweden (plus-six) at the WJC and scored 1 goal with 4 assists. Sweden defeated Russia in the championship game.

Talent Analysis

A two-way center with good skating ability, Nordstrom is a capable player at both ends of the ice. Offensively, he is more of a set-up man with good vision, hockey sense, and accurate passing ability. Though he possesses a decent frame at 6'1, his strength and physical play are still developing.

Future

Signed to an entry-level contract by Chicago, Nordstrom could transition to the North American game in the AHL with Rockford for the 2012-13 season. Another year with AIK in the Swedish Elite League is also a possibility.

The Chicago Blackhawks possess a deep pool of blueliners at the collegiate level, from imposing physical presences like Stephen Johns and Michael Paliotta to smooth skaters Justin Holl and Nick Mattson. Centers Kevin Hayes, a first round draft choice in 2010, and Drew LeBlanc, recently signed as a free agent out of St. Cloud State, are also high-profile prospects who developed at the NCAA level in 2012-13.

A significant number of early-round draft picks in recent years have put the Chicago Blackhawks system among the deepest organizations in the league. Although there may not be much in the way of blue-chip talent, the system has multiple NHL-caliber prospects at each position and plenty of players competing at the AHL level.
