Below is the 21-30 segment of the Hockey’s Future 2014-15 Fall NHL team rankings. The teams are ranked in terms of the quality of their overall prospect pool as voted on by members of the HF staff. For reference purposes, just the top five prospects are listed. To be eligible, a prospect must meet HF’s prospect criteria. The ranking is done twice a year, in the Fall and Spring. The Boston Bruins strength at the NHL level has always been down the middle and that is no different in their prospect system. The Bruins helped filled out some issues on the wing during the 2014 NHL Draft this past summer with first round pick David Pastrnak, but still remain thin along the boards.
As NHL clubs continue the pruning of their rosters in preparation for the 2014-15 season, the inevitable result is more ice time for veterans tuning up for the coming campaign which leads to fewer opportunities to shine for the younger NHL prospects. So, while there was still a busy slate of 2014 NHL preseason games played between Friday and Sunday, there were not as many notable prospect performances to choose from as there had been in the earliest days of the preseason. The Boston Bruins have turned to some of their young guns like Reilly Smith, Dougie Hamilton, Torey Krug and others to jump into the lineup and produce right away. With the Bruins’ current cap troubles, there is a good chance that top prospects like David Pastrnak, Ryan Spooner, and Alexander Khokhlachev will be to do the same.
