History
After being a star on Färjestad’s U18 team during the 05/06 and 06/07 seasons, Erkgärds was sent to the team’s affiliate Skåre in the Swedish third tier league. Erkgärds amassed 30 points in 36 regular season games and appeared to have no major problems adjusting to men’s hockey. With 3 goals and 4 assists, he was the second best scorer on the Swedish U19 national team during the spring, when the team competed in several exhibition games against other countries.
Talent Analysis
Erkgärds is an all-round player that controls most aspects of the game well. He plays a good two-way game that includes above average speed, hockey sense and technical skills. He can put the puck in the net, and also deliver distinct passes. Furthermore, he is solid defensively and an excellent penalty killer. Erkgärds moves the puck with confidence and should he not be able to transition his scoring game to the top level of play, he has the skill-set to instead become a very checking line player.
Future
After a season the third tier league, the next challenge for Erkgärds will be playing for Bofors in the Swedish second tier league. A team with many young players and Erkgärds, who is a strong candidate to make
