History

2008-09: Westin split the season between MODO's junior and first and second U-18 teams after putting up 41 points with Kramfors' U-18 squad the previous season. Westin appeared in 5 regular season games and 2 playoff contests for MODO's junior team and had 2 assists with 2 PMs. In 16 games at the U-18 Elitserien level, he scored 3 goals with 10 assists and had 16 PMs. In 19 U-18 Allsvenskan (second division) games, he scored 10 goals with 6 assists and 57 PMs.

2009-10: Westin scored at nearly a point-per-game pace in 31 games for MODO's junior team and also competed at the U-18 level. In 31 regular season junior games he scored 16 goals with 10 assists and had 18 PMs. In three playoff games he had 1 goal and 1 assist. At the U-18 level Westin scored 9 goals with 7 assists in 14 games (including one playoff contest) in Elitserien and Allsvenskan play.

2010-11: Westin made his Elitserien debut with a brief appearance for last-place MODO and played just seventeen games (including playoffs) with MODO'S junior team, missing most of the season after breaking his arm. Westin played just over four minutes in his only Elitserien game. He scored 6 goals with 1 assist in eleven regular season games for Modo's junior team and added 1 goal with 2 assists in six playoff contests.

Talent Analysis

Westin is an aggressive fore checker, willing and able to throw his weight around, and provide energy each time he is on the ice. The physical swede plays a North American style checking game and isn't afraid to get dirty in front of the opposition's net. He could be comparable to Tomas Holmstrom or Sammy Pahlsson but needs to improve skating speed and develop more his offensive skills.

Future

Westin signed a three year professional contract with MODO hockey of the Swedish Elite league on May 26, 2010. He will probably follow the same path as most Swedes by honouring his contract until 2013 before trying to play at the NHL level.
