History
Pearce spent the past four seasons with Notre Dame of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. In 2008-09, he was a finalist for the CCHA player of the year. He finished the season 30-6-3 with a 1.68 goals-against average, .931 save percentage and eight shutouts.
He led the nation in wins and shutouts, was second in goals-against average, and fifth in save percentage. He was selected as the CCHA scholar-athlete of the year. Pearce backstopped the Irish to both the CCHA regular-season and playoff titles this season. He was also named the CCHA’s best goaltender in 2007-08.
2009-10: Pearce split starts with Alec Richards (CHI) for the ECHL's Toledo Walleye throughout the season. In 52 appearances, Pearce finished with a 15-16-2 record with a 3.63 goals against average and .891 save percentage. He went 1-2-1 in 4 playoff games with a 3.88 goals against average and .881 save percentage. The netminder also appeared in 5 AHL games with Grand Rapids, earning a 1-2-0 record, 3.82 goals against average, and .875 save percentage.
2010-11: Pearce did not impress much in his ECHL stint (4.13 GAA, .883 save percentage), however when fellow prospect Thomas McCollum struggled, Pearce took it as an opportunity to shine. In 44 games with the Griffins, Pearce put up a 2.89 GAA and .908 save percentage, effectively earning him a spot on the team.
Talent Analysis
Pearce possesses good size for a goaltender, and uses it to his advantage. Plays a very strong mental game, staying focused and on task. Overall, he is a very steady goaltender.
Future
He projects as a back-up goaltender. Pearce will likely start the year in Grand Rapids, but could also see time ECHL’s Toldeo Walleye once again for the 2011-12 season. Pearce could wind up switching roles with Thomas McCollum as the season rolls on.
