He played for Finland’s entry at the 2001 Under-18 World Championships, notching a goal and three points. At the time he was drafted he was ranked 59th among CSB European Prospects. Ketola was on the roster for the Finnish junior squad that played in a tournament in Lake Placid, which gave the Islanders a chance to get a first-hand viewing of Ketola’s development after the Finnish forward was the 18th player chosen in 2001 Canadian Hockey League import draft.

2002-03: Returned to Lukko Rauma jr for the 2002-03 season and was sent to Jotkat of Uusikaupunki after a slow start because of an injury, did have two goals and 14 points with Lukko.
He is a checking center with great character and work ethic. Has some degree of offensive skills but his game is more on the defensive side. Good on face-offs and is a fine penalty killer and was the Lukko team captain. Ketola is listed as a "heart and soul" type of player.
