Justin McCrae

Profile Contributed By: HF Staff

History

2006-07: While teammate Colton Gillies has garnered much of the attention from scouts over the past season, the contribution and development of Justin McCrae has been a pleasant surprise in Saskatoon. The young veteran forward scored 16 goals and 33 assists in 61 games for the Blades, who missed the playoffs this season.  A dependable defensive forward, McCrae has completed three seasons in Saskatoon and will be looked upon to continue to lead the club next season, both on and off the ice.

2007-08: After starting the season as Saskatoon’s captain, McCrae joined fellow Hurricanes prospect Drayson Bowman after a midseason trade to Spokane, and was a key contributor to the Chiefs’ Memorial Cup title. In 65 combined regular-season games, McCrae had 19 goals and 22 assists, and added seven assists in 21 postseason games.

Talent Analysis

A determined performer, McCrae impressed head coach and general manager Lorne Molleken with his grit and all-around skills, much like former Montreal Canadien forward Bob Gainey.

Future

McCrae oozes leadership and exhibits effort, traits Carolina always covets. His future is as an energy player who can contribute some at both ends of the ice.  The Hurricanes, however, elected not to sign McCrae, so he will go back into the draft.
